Dhaima Matthews comincia la sua attivita di cantante molto giovane nella sua nativa Nashville, negli anni sessanta, registrando alcuni singoli di musica soul con il gruppo The Buttons per la Columbia Records. Si trasferisce successivamente a Los Angeles dove sposa la causa dei diritti civili e si interessa alla musica reggae e al movimento rastafari. Sentendosi sempre più vicina a questa cultura stringe una lunga amicizia con Bob e Rita Marley, registra diversi singoli per Joe Gibbs nel suo studio di Kingston tra il '76 e il '78. Tra questi “Ina Jah Children”(1976), “A True” dove Dhaima duetta con Dennis Brown, “Can't Buy My Love” (1978) e il 12 pollici in combination con D. Brown, Trinity e The Mighty Diamonds “Christmas Rockers” (1978).
In questi anni Joe Gibbs è uno dei produttori più affermati in Giamaica, si è da poco trasferito in un nuovo e ben equipaggiato studio di Kingston lavorando con artisti del calibro di Big Youth, Jacob Miller, Dennis Brown, Barrington Levy etc..
Joe Gibbs collaborando con Errol Thompson, produce anche molti di quei deejay-cut che segnano la nascita del reggae digitale e della dancehall con artisti come Dillinger, Clint Eastwood, I Roy etc..

This is a Killer Edit by the Italian Dj-Producer Suonho on AK label.
The tune is the re-edit of the Donny Hathaway' soul-funk classic: "The Ghetto", released in the early 70's on ATCO. The track appeared the following year on his debut Lp "Everything is Everything" on Atlantic Records.
The Ghetto was co-wrote by Leroy Hutson.
Another Huston's re-worked version was out in the '74 on Curtom Records with a faster and funkier touch, named the Ghetto 74; this version featured on Leroy Huston second solo album "the Man !".
The Suonho's version is avaible on 12' with a nice artwork that pays homage to the originale realise.
Suonho remixed also a super funky badass tune made by the italian composer Piero Umiliani "Le Ore Che Contano".
